“The one-acts that make up Andrew Bujalski’s film percolate with sly humor, decency, curiosity, and sheer nerve.”
—The New York Times
Back during the bad, scary days of the pandemic, writer-director Andrew Bujalski concocted a plan to tell a dryly humorous story about the importance and fragility of human connection within the limitations of social isolation. All the actors are in different places, sometimes even different continents, even as they converse across the room. Amazingly, due to Bujalski and his talented teammates — including cast members Jason Schwartzman, Lennie James, Lili Taylor, and Molly Gordon — it all works. Bujalski joins us to present the film and reflect upon its making. Screening in conjunction with the Museum of Human Achievement and Fusebox’s upcoming “There There” installation, which opens February 21, 2025.
“There There” is an immersive three-screen installation experience adapted and expanded from Andrew Bujalski’s 2022 movie of the same name. Across a series of interconnected “duet” scenes on themes of trust and belief, the audience is invited to stand literally in the space between characters — to witness the stitching together of their performances and to examine the distance we ourselves traverse with every leap of faith in another person.
