In conjunction with their stage production “Mack & Mabel” (April 29 – May 29, 2022), about the great silent film comedy impresario Mack Sennett and the screenwriter/star/director Mabel Normand, our friends at the Alchemy Theatre came up with a great idea: a screening of some of Mabel’s finest short films with musical accompaniment by pianist Kirsten Boyd. We are honored to present this special event and we hope you can join us for a few laughs and a celebration of this film pioneer.

About Mabel Normand:
Mabel Normand was not only a great comedienne in the early film era, working alongside many greats including Charlie Chaplin & Fatty Arbuckle, but she also was a screenwriter, one of the earliest silent actors to function as her own director, the first leading lady to be named in the title of her films, and one of the first women in film history to own her own film studio. In her short career – she died on February 23, 1930 in Monrovia, California at the age of 36 – she became an early film pioneer and helped to shape the film industry. With this event we honor her works and spirit.
