Set in the Bedford-Stuyvesant area of Brooklyn, Spike Lee’s thought-provoking and powerful 1989 comedy/drama chronicles the events that lead up to a racial confrontation between the residents. The action takes place on the hottest day of the year and centers around a pizza parlor run by Italian-American Sal (Danny Aiello) and his two sons. Lee’s kinetic and colorful style showcases wonderful acting turns by the large ensemble cast which includes the writer-director Spike Lee himself, John Turturro, Giancarlo Esposito, Rosie Perez, Bill Nunn, Robin Harris and the wonderful Ossie Davis, who gets to deliver the best line of the film.
