James Cagney plays an impresario of live theatrical “preshows” that are staged before movie premieres. We follow the ups and downs of his career between gonzo musical numbers staged and choreographed by Busby Berkeley, including the justly famous “By A Waterfall” sequence that depicts the fertilization of the ovum as a water ballet. Strong stuff.
