Intro to Pro-Tools for Film

Intro to Pro Tools for Film teaches the basics of audio editing, sound design, and mixing for linear media using the industry-standard Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) Pro Tools. This workshop will not only provide ample practical knowledge of Pro Tools, but it will also provide students with an understanding of audio techniques and jargon used in professional audio studios. During the workshop, students will engage in extensive hands-on use of Pro Tools and will even complete a short sound design project.

Topics covered include:

  • Basics of the Pro Tools interface
  • Designing sessions and importing and exporting media
  • Different audio editing methods (editing modes, fades, dialogue vs. sound effects editing)
  • Plugins (compression, EQ, limiters, etc.)
  • Mixing practices (automation, panning, plugin signal flow)
  • Routing and I/O (busses, auxes, sends, etc.)
