VALLEY OF THE DOLLS Benefit for Moser

| |

I really should be working on our application to the City of Austin, but I would so much rather be writing about Stephen's Angels, an informal group of the family and friends of STEPHEN MOSER. Stephen has terminal prostate cancer and has embarked on a scary journey, but he has some good karma to celebrate on the way, as evidenced by the way his angels are circling around him.

What could be a more fitting way to celebrate and raise funds for our style avatar than a music, film and party series? It begins with a special screening of the camp Sixties classic VALLEY OF THE DOLLS on Tuesday, April 15 at the Alamo Ritz. An after-party at OILCAN HARRY’S will feature karaoke with performances from GRETCHEN PHILLIPS and JOEL MOZERSKY.

The scoop just came from Sister Margaret, who writes the synopses on all of our Hall of Fame honorees:

"A devoted fan of classic kitsch, VALLEY OF THE DOLLS is among STEPHEN’s favorite films of all time. Its cult status was almost instantaneous, as the Jacqueline Susann novel jumped from bestseller list to silver screen in 1967. The film’s stars Patty Duke, Barbara Parkins, and Sharon Tate each claim career highlights in this story of three young women on the path to show biz success as it takes its toll on them. The film also starred Susan Hayward in one of her last roles, playing the tougher-than-nails veteran performer Helen Lawson. VALLEY OF THE DOLLS' over-the-top dialogue, stilted musical numbers, and clichéd premise make it revered among filmgoers who love the Sixties and pop culture.

The VALLEY OF THE DOLLS film screening at the downtown ALAMO RITZ (320 E 6th Street) will feature Master of Ceremonies JOEL MOZERSKY. Tickets are $10 and may be purchased online (in fact, we encourage it); pre-show at 9:15pm with the film at 9:45pm. At midnight, OILCAN HARRY’S (211 W. 4th Street) festivities continue with karaoke including performances by GRETCHEN PHILLIPS and JOEL MOZERSKY. Buy Tickets Here: http://www.originalalamo.com/Show.aspx?id=5227

Attendees who wish to donate $10 or more to Stephen’s fundraiser will receive a “Climb the Highest Mountain” thank-you bag. Other donations may be made through Paypal using moserfund@gmail.com or to Falcon Bank in Stephen’s name.

This event is one in a series of events arranged in conjunction with Stephen’s Angels, an informal group of family and friends. The next event is the PIE SOCIAL with a showing of MILDRED PIERCE starring Joan Crawford and Zachary Scott, Sunday May 4 at the ALAMO. Austin Chronicle food critic and author VIRGINIA WOOD is hosting it as an array of Austin restaurants will donate pies for eating and auction. On Wednesday May 14, ANTONE’S is hosting STEPHEN IS ONE IN A MILLION!, an evening of music with a silent auction in Stephen’s honor."
