Moviemaker Dialogues

featuring Lee Daniel, Deb Lewis & PJ Raval

moderated by AFS Education Director Christian Raymond

Join three of Austin's most accomplished shooters as they share clips of their work and discuss the art and practice of cinematography. High budget and low; video and film; docs, narrative features, music videos and commercials - these shooters have done it all and will share their insights on how they tell stories through images.

Lee Daniel co-founded the Austin Film Society in 1985 with Richard Linklater and went on to shoot many of his films, including SLACKER, DAZED AND CONFUSED, BEFORE SUNRISE, SUBURBIA, BEFORE SUNSET and FAST FOOD NATION. Lee also shot several acclaimed documentaries such as YOU'RE GONNA MISS ME, BE HERE TO LOVE ME and THE UNFORESEEN.

Deborah Eve Lewis holds documentary feature credits such as P.O.V.'s LAST MAN STANDING (Paul Stekler) and CRITICAL CONDITION (Roger Weisberg), Independent Lens' WRIT WRITER (Susanne Mason) and TROOP 1500 (Ellen Spiro and Karen Bernstein), as well as First Run Features' WITH GOD ON OUR SIDE- GEORGE W. BUSH AND THE RISE OF THE RELIGIOUS RIGHT IN AMERICA (David Van Taylor & Calvin Scaggs). Her narrative credits include AFRAID OF EVERYTHING (David Barker) and THE SLOW BUSINESS OF GOING, winner of Best Narrative Feature at the New York Underground Film Festival.

Named one of Filmmaker Magazine's "25 new faces of independent film" in 2006, PJ Raval is an award-winning cinematographer and director. PJ shot the 2008 Sundance Film Festival Documentary Grand Jury Award Winner TROUBLE THE WATER and the 2006 Independent Spirit Award nominated ROOM, and just completed shooting THE TWO BOBS, directed by Tim McCanlies (SECONDHAND LIONS, IRON GIANT). PJ's directorial debut, the documentary feature TRINIDAD, premiered at the 2008 Los Angeles Film Festival.
