Had Kris Kristofferson stayed in his chosen field of academia, the world of entertainment would be a very different place. Fortunately, the Brownsville native listened to the music in his heart, which led to his career on the silver screen. Heading for Nashville instead of West Point in 1965, Kristofferson found his voice as a songwriter, penning country classics such as "For the Good Times," "Help Me Make It Through the Night" and "Lovin' Her Was Easier." Janis Joplin's 1971 chart-topping version of "Me and Bobby McGee" was his crossover hit, and the next year he made his breakout film debut in CISCO PIKE. His string of popular '70s and '80s films include PAT GARRETT AND BILLY THE KID, ALICE DOESN'T LIVE HERE ANYMORE, A STAR IS BORN and SONGWRITER. A Golden Globe winner and a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame, his notable films of late include LONE STAR, A SOLDIER'S DAUGHTER NEVER CRIES and the upcoming FAST FOOD NATION, directed by Richard Linklater.
