SCHULTZE GETS THE BLUES

Recently retired from the salt mines, Schultze leads a bland existence with his fellow retirees. Then one night, while surfing radio stations, he hears an accordion being played in an amazing way. Taking up his own accordion, he begins playing the new tune in his tired old way but, before our very eyes, increases the tempo until he is playing what he has heard – zydeco music. Most of his fellow townspeople are provincial stick-in-the-muds and disparage Schulze’s new obsession. After receiving a free trip to New Braunfels (yes, that one to the south of Austin) for the Wurstfest music competition, he trades his accordion for a motorboat and sets off on his real journey of self-discovery – down river, into the Gulf, and onward to Louisiana, the source of the joyful music that has set his spirit free. -- Chale Nafus
