Philippe Garrel’s pièce de résistance and the apotheosis of his career, this perfectly rendered black-and-white elegy to the revolutionary events that shook Paris in May, 1968 is Garrel’s latest masterpiece and his most autobiographical, derived from his personal experiences as a misguided, disaffected 20-year-old living in the embattled city and searching for change. Garrel cast his real-life son, Louis Garrel (THE DREAMERS, DANS PARIS), in the lead as an idealistic young artist fighting on behalf of a revolution he doesn’t even understand.
