LE LIT DE LA VIERGE (THE VIRGIN’S BED)
French Maverick, Rebel Auteur: Four Films of Philippe Garrel | Screenings
|
• Written and directed by Philippe Garrel The emerging auteur’s rarely screened first feature-length film, this 1969 film was made 40 years ago in the wake of the’68 revolution and represents Garrel’s first foray into narrative filmmaking. A loose Biblical allegory starring the legendary model-artist-musician Zouzou as Mary Magdalene, French actor Pierre Clémenti as Jesus and the director himself as a misguided apostle, THE VIRGIN’S BED is a hauntingly austere and unparalleled film debut. |
