Description

For its 2008 FALL SERIES FINALE, the AUSTIN CINEMATHEQUE presents a rare 35mm screening of Lindsay Anderson's anarchic masterpiece, IF...., starring Malcolm McDowell in his feature film debut.

Lindsay Anderson's IF.... presents a daringly cynical vision of upper class British society.  Set in a boarding school in late-sixties England, Malcolm McDowell plays the openly rebellious Mick Travis, who, along with his school chums, trumps authority at every turn, finally emerging as a violent savior against the draconian games of one-upmanship played by both students and faculty.

A predecessor to Stanley Kubrick's A CLOCKWORK ORANGE mixing color sequences with black-and-white as audaciously as it mixes fantasy and reality, IF.... remains one of cinema's most unforgettable cinematic assaults.

Winner of the Palm d'Or at the 1969 Cannes Film Festival.
