The UT Documentary Center welcomes renowned European filmmaker Alison Rooper for a screening of Doping for Gold (2007) followed by a Q&A. Educated in Britain and Germany, Alison has worked on several observational and historical documentaries including End of Empire (1982) and the Apartheid series (1987). Since 2003 she has been working as a freelance executive producer and running her production company, In Focus Productions.
The films she has executive produced include the award-winning documentary War Feels Like War (2004), shown on POV and around the world; The Headmaster and the Headscarves (2005), an acclaimed BBC documentary following young Muslim girls in France; and Massacre in Luxor (2002), which recounts the devastating 1997 terrorist attack in Egypt. Her most recent film Doping for Gold, which recounts the devastating effects of East Germany’s secret doping program on its women athletes, will air on PBS this Spring.
