The Austin Film Society (AFS) today announced it will present AUDIENCE OF ONE on Wednesday, January 16, at 7 p.m. at the Alamo Downtown, 320 E. 6th Street, as part of its monthly Documentary Tour series. Directed by Michael Jacobs, who will attend the screening with producer Matt Woods, the film follows Pastor Richard Gazowsky as he tries to fulfill a call from God to produce a feature film.
"Attempting to fulfill a vision and a mission, without any practical experience, can be a foolhardy, even a dangerous pursuit. Pastor Richard Gazowsky fervently believed that God would fill in for his lack of experience and help him produce the biggest and greatest epic movie ever made," writes Chale Nafus, Austin Film Society's Director of Programming. "But he would soon discover, if not admit, that you need a lot more than God on your side to make a movie. Michael Jacob’s amazing and sobering film, AUDIENCE OF ONE, traces the journey of the pastor and his adoring, always believing flock of eager followers in their attempts to make GRAVITY, THE SHADOW OF JOSEPH. At times humorous, other times heartrending, the documentary makes clear the foibles of a God-driven ego wrapped in the mantle of belief and faith."
A festival favorite, AUDIENCE OF ONE picked up Special Jury Prizes at SXSW and Bend Film Festivals, the Beyond Belief Award at SILVERDOCS and the coveted Audience Award at San Francisco Documentary Festival.
Tickets are $4 for AFS members and students with current IDs and $6 for the general public. Tickets for AFS members and non-members may be purchased online at www.austinfilm.org. Tickets at the student rate can only be purchased inside the theater on the night of the screening. Online ticket sales close at 3 p.m. on the day of the screening. The AFS Documentary Tour is made possible in part by support from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Texas Commission on the Arts, and the City of Austin through the Cultural Arts Division.

Austin Film Society promotes the appreciation of film and supports creative filmmaking by screening rarely seen films, giving grants and other support to emerging filmmakers, and providing access and education about film to youth and the public. Through Austin Studios, which AFS opened in 2000 in partnership with the City of Austin, AFS helps attract film development and production to Austin and Texas. Gala film premieres and the annual Texas Film Hall of Fame Awards raise funds as well as awareness of the impact of film on economy and community. The Austin Film Society is ranked among the top film centers in the country and recognized by the National Endowment for the Arts and Directors Guild of America.
