Sometimes in life there are things that are so elemental to your nature, such an essential part of who you are as a person, that it is easy to miss their full meaning if you aren't paying attention. In my life, film is one of those things.
I love movie nights, enjoy rocking out at concerts (mobleytheband.com), devour books, am fascinated with graphic novels, love to hit the streets skater style on my long board, have an affinity for screenwriting, prefer avant-garde theater, and am

I like horror films, feminism, nachos, drums, stop-motion animation, etiquette, photography, things that glow in the dark, reading, Hitchcock, dresses, biking, and writing. My favorite animal is the octopus, and the correct plural of that is octopuses. I also really like Egyptology and breaking hearts. Most of my activities involve these things. I am very allergic to cats.

I have just come to Austin for the first time ever, moving from San Diego, California, where I left behind family and friends, and all things Californian, to take on the exciting opportunity of being a part of the Austin Film Society! I’m 23 and have had the great privilege of working in non-profit arts administration at The Old Globe Theatre in Balboa Park, San Diego. Though love it dearly I did, and to me, Balboa Park is heaven on earth, I was always reading up on the AFS

I was that kid in your elementary school class who was on the edge of my desk, while everyone else was falling asleep, during the Ken Burns documentary about the Civil War. I absolutely LOVE documentaries! All of them: funny ones, serious ones, "boring" ones, political ones, biographical ones. Despite my deep hatred for television, I'm a huge fan of PBS. And I'm probably the only person under the age of 65 who regularly makes donations.
I'm really passionate about

Born and raised in H-town, schooled in the ATX, and falling more and more in love with AFS everyday, I'm looking forward to whatever obstacles/opportunities come my way in my constant quest of being an active member in the media making community. With a background in music and film (courtesy of my awesome arts magnet high school HSPVA, The University of Texas, and various life lessons learned from family and friends) I hope one day

As a native of Los Angeles, California, I wisely chose to begin my career in film after moving to Austin, Texas. I actually found myself in Austin by way of stops in South Dakota, North Carolina, Virginia, England, and elsewhere in Texas and California. However, I have finally arrived here with my faithful terrier, ready to seek my fortune.

I actually found myself in Austin by way of stops in South Dakota, North Carolina, Virginia, England, and elsewhere in Texas and California. However, I have finally arrived here with my faithful terrier, ready to seek my fortune. Though I love art of all types—visual, music, dance, theatre—film has always been the most accessible to me. As a child, I would read

As far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be a director. In kindergarten when the teacher asked us what we wanted to be when we grew up, I said that I wanted to be a director and make movies like E.T. and BACK TO THE FUTURE.
As far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be a director. In kindergarten when the teacher asked us what we wanted to be when we grew up, I said that I wanted to be a director and make movies like E.T. and BACK TO THE FUTURE.Movies were my window to the world from the small south Texas town of Alice. My parents would take me to see movies that they wanted to see, so I saw a lot of movies I probably shouldn't have seen at a young age. When I was nine I saw SEVEN, PULP

I have always enjoyed going to the movies. Being born and raised in Houston, the dark, heavily air-conditioned theaters were a treat in and of themselves not to mention the short reprieve from the cacophony of yelling, screaming, and general bedlam that seemed to accompany my large family wherever we went. Now I love films, but don’t get me wrong, I also love my family. Being the middle child sandwiched

After living the majority of my life in San Antonio, I decided to leave Texas, pursue my passion for filmmaking and go to film school in Orlando, Florida. Leaving Texas was hard for me, but I felt it necessary to leave the beautiful Texas plains behind for the sake of my dream. Little did I know, while I was learning the tricks of the trade in Florida, Austin was becoming a hot spot for filmmakers. When I graduated, Austin welcomed me with open arms and I moved back to Texas without thinking

Kami is a film enthusiast and baking neophyte who has nearly burned down two of four of her Austin residences over the past five years. Before she moved to Austin to attend UT, she graduated high school in Katy, Texas. Originally from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Kami moved to England at the age of five where she learned to speak English with a really cute accent, which is gone now.
Other than crossword puzzles and frito pies, Kami enjoys reading, writing, blogging, draping her cat around her

What does turkey racing, deer hunting, line running, and giant catfish have to do with it? Well, they are my intro into the world of motion pictures.
I was born and raised next door at the tiny spot of Rosanky, Texas. Not a lot to do out there, which is a great thing. It requires the human to do things not related to television or malls. My mind was allowed to roam, and for some reason, making movies sounded adventurous.
So there I was, hunting and fishing with my friends. I

For as long as I can remember, film has been a great interest of mine. My parents say that as an infant and small child I would quote my favorite movies over and over. Little would they, or anyone else (including myself), know that those endless quotes would become an unforgiving obsession.
Although I possessed a passionate appreciation and adoration for film I never thought about pursuing it as a career. Having lived in many parts of the country including New York City, northern Wisconsin,

On April 11th 1985, my parents rushed to St. John’s Hospital in Austin having just left my grandfather’s funeral ceremony. My mother was in labor. I came out into the world the next morning around 4 a.m. with my umbilical cord wrapped around my neck, having missed my inheritance by 6 days. Such is life. Since this first introduction, I have never been a morning person.

I studied films instead of books while pursuing an English degree at Michigan State University. The writings and films by Maya Deren inspired me and the patriarchal systems that dominant film and academia angered me. My degree from MSU instilled in me passion, strong opinions, and the ability to gain value from an argument.
I am interested in exploring trauma through documentary films. I spent two summers filming documentaries on location; one in London about the 2005 suicide ... » read more

I've had a fairly convoluted relationship with film since I was a wee lass. Projects throughout my reign at the UT film department often sparked a bitter frustration with the filmmaking hassles that surfaced, but watching the final project with the fluidity and poignancy I had hoped for compelled me to fully embrace this art. Ergo, I possess a genuine passion for cinema that will help me push my film degree to its utmost potential of supernatural proportions.
